Best Cashback/Miles Cards to Use For Road Tax
Last Updated: 26th September 2025
Renewing your road tax soon? Get cashback or miles when you use the right cards. With a Merchant Category Code (MCC) of 9399 for government services and American Express cards no longer supported, it is getting difficult to get rewards when you pay for your road tax renewal. Nonetheless, there are options for interest-free instalments.
Tip: you can use Amex cards for road tax
Update: PayPal will be discontinued from 6th July 2025 which means that Amex cards may not be accepted after that
Despite seemingly only accepting Visa or Mastercard, you can pay for your road tax renewal using American Express on LTA’s onemotoring website. Just select payment via PayPal and input your Amex card details accordingly.
This would be useful as many cards that give rewards for MCC 7399 are American Express cards.

Instalment plan with DCS
DCS also offers 3 or 6-month instalment plans for your road tax payment without any processing fee.
All you need to do is to use AXS to make payment for your road tax. You will be given an option on the repayment period within the AXS app or website. Note that DCS cards do not award rewards for road tax payments.
