Benefits of Atome

Atome is accepted at a variety of retail stores and even online merchants, and it offers a few advantages:

BenefitHow it Helps
PredictabilityTransactions code as MCC 5999

Transactions code as online
Breaks up transactionInterest-free 3-month instalment is good for cashflow

Able to break up big transaction into smaller ones and assign multiple cards to one purchase
Atome vouchersAdditional discount on purchase
Earns Atome pointsExtra rewards on top of credit card miles/cashback
Competitive forex ratesAtome claims to have good rates

When using Atome, I know that the transaction MCC would be 5999 and it would code as an online transaction, making it easier to pick out what card to use. In fact, for sites like Trip.com, Atome changes the MCC to 5999, making it possible to use Citi Rewards for such transactions even though the card excludes travel MCCs.

Since it breaks up a transaction into smaller ones, it is also great for handling larger transactions that can exceed the spend caps of cards. A S$3,000 transaction may overwhelm a card that gives rewards only on the first S$1,000 of spend each month, but breaking it up into 3 payments over 3 months makes it fit nicely. This works for larger purchases like iPhones or other electronics.

Atome also offers vouchers that gives additional savings. Users also earn Atome points which can be redeemed for vouchers, rebates, or miles.

The BNPL app also recently launched in Malaysia, and at least one user reports “pretty good” rates.

Atome

Atome splits up your transaction and converts them into online ones. Also, discount vouchers and promos can reduce your spend.

Downsides of Atome

I hope this goes without saying, but if you are using BNPL services like Atome so that you can spend beyond your means, you should reconsider your purchase.
