I have been using the card since it got good (3 years and counting!), so here are some tips and tricks I can share (publicly) on how to get more value from the card.

How yuu Points are credited

When you spend with DBS yuu at eligible yuu merchants, you get the following points:

Scanning the yuu App1X yuu PointUnlimitedSome yuu partners give a multiplier here
Credited immediately to app
Base Earn Rate at eligible yuu merchants (except SimplyGo)1X yuu PointUnlimitedCredited within same day when you scan your yuu ID when transacting

Bonus Earn Rate at eligible yuu merchants if S$800 min. spend is reached within calendar month35X yuu Points28,800 yuu Points
(capped at S$822.86 of spend)
Credited end of following month*
*Despite terms and conditions stating that it can take 60 working days after the end of each month, users have been getting their points around the end of following month (e.g. end of March for transactions made in February).

Technically, the DBS yuu card earns 35X yuu Points which is worth 9.72 miles per dollar or 17.5% rebates. The remaining 1X point is earned by scanning the yuu App, after which you can use any other card you wish (though there is little reason to use anything other than the DBS yuu card at a yuu Partner).

yuu Points are found in your yuu App. Download yuu app and enter code Q1Y4J3GW if prompted.

Redeeming for rebates

yuu Points can typically be used at a 0.5 cent per point valuation. At yuu partners where you are able to scan your yuu App at the point of purchase, you are able to use your yuu Points to offset the transaction at that valuation. For instance, if your transaction at Cold Storage is S$15, you can choose to offset 2,000 yuu Points for S$10 and pay the remaining S$5.

There are also better ways to redeem your yuu Points such as redeeming deals within the app. S$10 vouchers at Cold Storage is usually slightly discounted, costing 1,940 points (instead of the 2,000 required to offset S$10 in my example above). There can be larger discounts too, an the yuu App quite frequently offers vouchers at up to 50% discount (e.g. S$10 vouchers for 1,000 points instead of 2,000).

Personally, I try to redeem for discounted deals as much as possible. foodpanda vouchers at half price tend to be released each month in recent times. Cold Storage and Giant ones used to be quite common, but they haven’t shown up in a while now. I also use my yuu Points for rebates on months where I exceed my DBS yuu’s spend cap and can’t earn any more yuu Points with the card.

Redeeming for miles

When it comes to airline miles, yuu Points can only be transferred to KrisFlyer miles at a ratio of 3.6 yuu Points = 1 KrisFlyer Mile. Read this article for more details.

The bulk of my KrisFlyer miles still come from sources like DBS and UOB (points that can’t really be converted to many other airlines), but because yuu Points conversions are instant, free, and can be done in very small blocks. This is why I find it useful to have some yuu Points that I can convert to miles if I want to book a flight really quickly.

Double-wielding the Visa and Amex cards for S$1,645 monthly cap

DBS yuu comes in Visa and Amex versions, and each cardholder can hold both cards. Bigger spenders would want to do so because each card comes with its own S$822.86 cap. If you max both cards out, you can get 57,600 bonus yuu Points each month from both cards. That’s 16,000 miles or S$288 of rebates every month!

After you have linked your first card to your yuu App, your second yuu card is automatically linked.

Difference between Visa and Amex versions

While both the Visa and Amex version of DBS yuu have the same earn rates and requirements, there are some slight differences between the two.

For instance, DBS yuu (Amex) gets to participate in certain American Express promo campaigns, such as the Shop Small campaign in July 2024. Such promos have been quite rare, but it’s a nice touch when it happens.

The Amex version, however, is not as widely accepted as the Visa version. A notable example of this is 7-11 which is a yuu partner but does not accept American Express cards.

Also, it seems like they have slightly different exclusions. Anecdotally, pandapay top-ups, for instance, seem to yield bonus points for the Amex version but not the Visa one.

Track your points expiry and spend with yuu App

You can check your points expiry as well as how much you have spent in a certain month with the yuu App.

There are also other ways you can track your spend. See this article for more details:

Spending sub-optimally still makes sense

A common objection I’ve heard to the DBS yuu is: “I don’t spend that much on [insert yuu Partner name]!”

While spending all S$800 on places like Giant, foodpanda, Singtel etc. is the most optimal way to use DBS yuu, I wouldn’t rule out the card even if I can’t hit all S$800 on yuu Merchants.

Because of how high the earn rate is, even spending about part of the S$800 minimum spend on yuu Partners and the rest elsewhere can make sense.

Even if you spend just S$400 on yuu Merchants and the remaining S$400 on other retail spend in a month, you still get an effective earn rate of 4.93 miles per dollar or 8.88% rebate on the entire S$800 which is very respectable.

Easy way to hit spend requirement: Dairy Farm vouchers

For the longest time, Dairy Farm vouchers — vouchers that can be used across Dairy Farm Group’s merchants such as 7-11, Cold Storage, Giant etc. — count towards transactions that generate 35X yuu Points with DBS yuu.

This makes it a quick and easy way to meet the spend requirement within a particular month. For smaller spenders, you can always buy S$800 worth of Dairy Farm vouchers before taking a few months or however long you need to spend down your vouchers before repeating the process.

While voucher purchases are specifically excluded from yuu App’s 1X points, cardholders have so far been getting 35X Points with DBS yuu card (provided S$800 minimum spend is reached within the month). When spending with your Dairy Farm vouchers, you can then scan your yuu App at the cashier to get 1X Point for whatever you are buying.

Paying Singtel bills (and a few other online stuff) via Singtel kiosks

If you are a Singtel user, paying Singtel bills via Singtel kiosks has so far gotten 35X for the longest time (there is no way to scan your yuu App for bill payment so you will not get the 1X Point).

There is also a way to charge certain internet services to your Singtel bill, increasing your ability to gain yuu Points with your DBS yuu card.

Note: do not pay your Singtel bill via the app or website if you want to earn 35X yuu Points.
