LiquidPay Revives Credit Card Payments to Hawker NETS QR… For Now [Nerfed]
Update: unfortunately, Liquid Group will stop allowing payments to be made to hawker QR codes with LiquidPay from around 11PM, 23rd June 2026. However, top-up fees will be unchanged for the time being, which means the other way to earn rewards with LiquidPay still remains for now. Stay subscribed for updates.
Liquid Group, the company behind now defunct XNAP, has relaunched LiquidPay. LiquidPay V2 is supposed to make travel payments easy, letting people pay across different countries easily, but users have found something arguably more useful for Singaporean residents – LiquidPay V2 comes with the ability to make payments to NETS QR (widely used by hawker stalls) via a linked credit card.
This makes paying for hawker stalls with credit cards possible again… for now.
Earn cashback and miles for hawker stall payments again
I’ve tested a couple of transactions, and the payments went through successfully. The stall I patronised had a NETS payment terminal which printed the receipt as soon as I made the payment.

The Merchant Category Code (MCC) for such transactions is 5399 for Miscellaneous General Merchandise.

Not only is this MCC applicable for bonus rewards of many credit cards like DBS Woman’s World Mastercard or UOB EVOL, it is also whitelisted by cards like HSBC Revolution. This makes it possible for good amounts of cashback and miles to be earned on hawker stall payments while this lasts.
How to Use
- Sign up for LiquidPay account
- Go to Profile → Payment Methods → Add Card to add a credit card
- Use Scan & Pay and select your credit card as the payment source
There is no requirement to top up the account and this will work for NETS QR codes (see below for how to identify such QR codes) commonly found at hawker stalls.
Cards to Use
As an app payment, payments put through LiquidPay are likely going to be online transactions. It will also earn card rewards with cards that do not exclude MCC 5399, as well as those that specifically whitelist this particular MCC.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of cards that should work for LiquidPay transactions:

- Advertised rate can be quite misleading. A high cashback rate can be watered down due to a low sub-limit and minimum spend.
Identifying NETS QR codes
Note that this payment will work for NETS QR codes only, which are found at many hawker stalls islandwide.
The QR payments situation in Singapore is pretty messy, with numerous wallet apps and varying types of QR codes. While SGQR tries to unify different wallet apps into a single QR code, it does not mean that every SGQR accepts every single wallet app. Refer to this article for how to identify “hawker QR codes”.
Will LiquidPay move to block it?
As far as I’ve heard, Liquid Group does not intend to support hawker stall or NETS QR payments as this is a loss-incurring endeavour. Hawker stalls incur little to no fees for such QR payments, but there are interchange fees to be paid when credit cards are used.
I’m therefore not optimistic such transactions will continue to be supported, but until anything else changes we finally have the ability to earn card rewards on hawker stall payments again.
