Cheap Business Class: 4 Promos For Easy EVA Air Miles
I’ve written a guide on how to use EVA Air to get significant discounts off the miles required for Singapore Airlines flights. Now, here is how you can get EVA Air miles quickly with these 4 promos.
Paying for miles? It makes sense when it’s cheap enough
They require annual fees, but with a large enough number of miles for your fee, it’s like paying a significantly discounted rate for business class flights.
It costs 40,000 EVA Air miles to fly to Japan or Seoul on Singapore Airlines business class. If you buy each mile at 1 cent each, your return flight now costs just S$800 (with about S$100 for taxes). When you can get business class flights for this cheap, you should definitely take the chance to buy miles for cheap as much as you can.

Amex Platinum Charge: 100,000 miles + S$50 cashback
In case you missed it, American Express is offering an all-time high 100,000 miles for its Amex Platinum Charge card. The 100,000 miles can be transferred to EVA Air, which makes this a lot more valuable than just 100,000 of KrisFlyer miles.
You even get S$50 cashback to offset the annual fee on top of a bunch of membership benefits and statement credits. The first-year value proposition is very compelling, so check out the article I’ve already written.
My personal calculation is that you should be able to get back anywhere between S$700 to S$1,084 of the S$1,744 annual fee in cashback and statement credits. This means that this deal is about S$660 S$1,044 for 100,000 miles which is a very good deal at just 0.66 to 1.04 cents per mile. That’s S$528 to S$832 (excluding taxes) for your return flight to Japan/Seoul in business class!
On top of that, stack with the KrisFlyer Ascend card which gives up to 40,000 miles! KrisFlyer only, but still pretty sweet:
Citi PremierMiles: 30,000 miles
Citibank is offering as many as 30,000 miles when you meet a few easy requirements. Just sign up for the Citi PremierMiles miles card below, pay the annual fee of S$196.20 and spend S$800 within 30 days from card approval. The cost per mile? Just 0.65 cents each.
If you’re allergic to paying an annual fee, getting the Citi Rewards (same Apply link) and spending the same S$800 can get you 40,000 ThankYou points which is equivalent to 16,000 miles.
Alternatively, you can also choose to get SingSaver’s rewards and before you ask — the promos can’t be stacked. You need to choose either one below:

Even if you are an existing Citbank cardholder or if you just signed up for the Citi PremierMiles deal above, you can still qualify for the Citi Prestige promo which nets you as many as 50,000 miles!
Citi Prestige’s annual fee is S$545 which is already quite worth it if you were just paying that to get 50,000 miles (1.09 cents per mile), but the other perks are really, really good. I recently got S$800+ in rebates from booking hotels for my Europe trip (article soon), and this is on top of very useful travel perks like free airport rides and unlimited lounge access (I’m going to feature this really soon so stay subscribed for updates).

HSBC TravelOne: 24,000 miles
HSBC recently nerfed the conversion rate for KrisFlyer miles, but they also upped the number of Rewards Points they are offering for new cardholders. This is a blessing in disguise — who needs KrisFlyer miles when you can transfer to EVA Air? In fact, now you can get 24,000 EVA Air miles from the 60,000 Rewards Points HSBC is offering for new cardholders. That’s a cost of 0.82 cents per mile.
Existing cardholders can get 12,000 miles paying the same S$196.20 annual fee, but I think this is still worth is as 12,000 miles in EVA Air is demonstrably more valuable than 12,000 KrisFlyer miles.
Alternatively, take a look at the promos HSBC is offering for other HSBC cards.

What to spend on?
You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.
Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.
Do check out this article on what you can spend on to meet the minimum spend:
