Guide: Booking Hotels For the 4th Night Free With Citi Prestige
Citi Prestige’s best feature has got to be its ability to give cardholders free hotel nights. And it’s not one of those gimmicky perks that sounds good on paper but is difficult to use. In fact, I take advantage this benefit every year since I’ve gotten my Citi Prestige, often multiple times a year, and here is a guide on how to use it.

Requirements
In order to get a free hotel night, you need to take note of the following:
- You must book through Citi Prestige Concierge.
- You must book at least 4 consecutive nights at the same hotel.
- The hotel room must be booked at a prepaid rate.
Further to the above, the following stays will not qualify for this benefit:
- Full and Half board room stays
- Single and multi-room suites
- Home & Farm Stays
- Serviced apartments
- Villas
- Packaged stay and member rates, such as air and hotel, hotel and car rental, hotel and meals bundled promotions
You don’t really have to remember these since the Concierge can advise you on whether the room you wish to book is eligible for the rebate. More on the booking process later.

Real savings
While Citibank markets the benefit as getting “one complimentary night” or your “4th night free”, you don’t actually get 25% off for a 4-night booking as one might expect. This is because taxes are not rebated.

Take the above booking for 4 nights at a hotel for example — instead of getting a rebate of S$270.46 (S$1,081.83 ÷ 4 or the total cost divided by 4), the rebate was S$245.87 (S$983.48 ÷ 4 or the total cost before tax divided by 4). This is about 22.7% off the total amount.
There are also a few other considerations such as Citi Prestige’s relatively weak earn rate of 1.3 miles per dollar (or 2 miles per dollar on foreign currency transactions) versus other cards which give 4 miles per dollar quite easily on hotel bookings, so you could reasonably knock about 2% off the savings that you get for a more realistic view of how much you have saved. Also, if you are booking for more than 4 nights, your overall savings start to dip as a percentage of the entire cost (e.g. 1 night free for 10 days is just 10% savings).
I usually assume a savings of about 20% when I use the Citi Prestige for 4-night bookings which is still a decent-sized discount. Stay subscribed for an upcoming post of how much I saved for some upcoming hotel bookings!
Back-to-back stays are not allowed, except…
If you are thinking of booking back-to-back 4-night stays, you can only claim the free hotel night once if you are booking hotels in the same city. Your check-out date for the first booking must be at least 7 days away from the check-in date for the next booking unless you are booking for different cities.
For instance, if you booked a stay from 12th to 16th February at Tokyo, then another hotel in the same city from 20th to 24th February, only one booking will be eligible for the rebate.
One easy way to “side-step” this would be to book in different cities. After booking your 12th to 16th February stay at Tokyo, you can book a 16th to 20th February stay at Osaka and get your 4th night free for both bookings. Of course, this is dependent on your travel plans, but I think it’s a very realistic way to travel.
Another way would be to have a travel companion who also owns a Citi Prestige card. You can then book your 12th to 16th February stay at Tokyo, then have your companion do the same for 16th to 20th in Tokyo too if you really wish to stay within one city.
Stacking with hotel loyalty benefits
You can also stack 4th night free with hotel loyalty programmes to earn points and enjoy your membership perks. To do so, you must call the Citi Prestige hotline and let the concierge know that you want to include your hotel membership number in your booking.
If you’re a Gold member with Hilton Honors, for example, you can quote your membership number to the concierge. You will earn points normally on this booking and enjoy membership perks like free breakfast. Note that the Concierge will insist on booking the non-member rate which is slightly more expensive than your usual member rates.
Steps to book
Before booking, you should prepare your Citi Prestige card details. You should also check the hotel website whether the particular room you wish to book has a prepaid rate.
To book the hotel:
- Call in the hotline at 6337 2484
- Press 1 for Concierge Services
- Prepare your card details for verification
- Let the operator know the hotel you want to book
While you can use the Citi app to book the hotel yourself, I recommend going through the Concierge hotline. The hotline is able to advise you on whether your booking is eligible for the free hotel night, and you can also stack your hotel membership perks with your booking. Booking through the Citi app, however, counts as an OTA (Online Travel Agency) booking which will render your hotel membership perks ineligible. You might also accidentally book a room that is not eligible for the 4th night free.
Timeline of rebates
After confirming your booking, you will be sent an email with the booking details. Another email confirming the rebate amount will also be sent in about one or two days in my experience:

While it says that the statement credit will take up to 90 days from completion of the stay, it usually arrives in a week or so after the booking. My recent booking experience:
| Date | Event |
| 30th January 2025 | Booked hotel through Concierge |
| 30th January 2025 (~15 minutes later) | Email from Concierge with rebate amount |
| 3rd February 2025 | Rebate is credited |
More Resources
Citi Prestige is one of the best cards I’ve owned and have used extensively, so here are some more resources I’ve done over the years of having the card:
New Citi cardholders should sign up for another Citi card first
If you want to enjoy two sign-up promos, sign up for another Citibank card first (if you are a new cardholder), before signing up for the Citi Prestige card. This way, you get to enjoy 2 sign-up promos instead just one.
Make sure you sign up in sequence. This is because the Citi Prestige sign-up promo works for existing Citi cardholders, but the other Citi card promos do not. Check out the latest sign-up promo here.
