Nerfed? Visa and Mastercard Not Accepted at Singtel Kiosks

Over the past week or so, there have been reports of Visa and Mastercard not being accepted at Singtel kiosks across the island. There is currently no indication whether this is a temporary outage or something more permanent, but until something changes, Visa and Mastercard cardholders will not be able to pay their Singtel bills via Singtel kiosks. This has some consequences for a few prominent credit cards.

Are all kiosks affected?

Update: according to multiple data points, the ones at Funan, One Raffles Place, and Lot One still accept Visa/Mastercard

At the moment, it is also unclear whether all kiosks are affected. Do chip in if you happen to be near a kiosk and let us know whether it accepts Visa/Mastercard.

DBS yuu Visa affected, use DBS yuu Amex instead

For kiosks that do not accept Visa or Mastercard payment, which means users of the Visa version of DBS yuu will not be able to pay Singtel bills for DBS yuu’s 9X or 35X yuu Points earn rate. The only option for such kiosks is to use the American Express version of DBS yuu which itself is only accepted at certain kiosks. You can refer to this article for locations that accept Amex.

DBS yuu Card

UOB Visa Signature and UOB Preferred Platinum Visa are also affected

Users of UOB Visa Signature and UOB Preferred Platinum Visa are also affected by this change. Previously, it was possible to get 4 miles per dollar with these cards by making contactless payment at Singtel kiosks. This is no longer possible at kiosks that have mysteriously stopped accepting Visa again.

Other Visa/Mastercard cards: pay via app or website instead

For those who wish to get rewards for other cards, payment via app or website is still possible. Your card will need to support either Merchant Category Code (MCC) 4814, or give its rewards on online transactions.

Previously, Singtel app was processing payments via AXS which is excluded by just about every credit card. They are no longer doing so, and customers can once again earn card rewards when they pay for their bills via the app if they use the right cards.

Just to be perfectly clear, you cannot get bonus points when you pay via the app or website using DBS yuu (requires payment at Singtel kiosks), UOB Visa Signature (requires contactless payment), or UOB Preferred Platinum Visa (MCC 4814 is not included as an eligible online transaction).

  1. Kiosks outside Tong building at orchard also only Amex. It seems that those that previously had Amex and visa now only have Amex and those that only had visa retain that?

  2. I indicated that 313 and Tong building kiosks can only use Amex now. Lucky plaza doesn’t have anymore. It seems those that could only take visa continue to take visa. Those that can take both can only take Amex now. Lot 1 machine under maintenance for a while now
