PSA: Paying Singtel Bill? Do Not Use Singtel App

Update: paying via the app now does not go through AXS again, and cards should offer cashback or miles on such transactions as long as they give rewards for MCC 4814.

In recent weeks, there have been multiple reports of Singtel app changing the backend of how its transactions are processed. It appears that the app has switched to using AXS to process transactions. AXS transactions are excluded by almost all credit cards for rewards, so Singtel users should look at other means to make payment for their monthly bills if they want cashback or miles.

Best way: paying with DBS yuu at Singtel kiosks

The best way to pay for one’s Singtel bills is still using DBS yuu at Singtel kiosks. It does require having to do this in person, and while I hate to leave the comfort of my own home, it is difficult to argue with 17.5% rebate or 9.5 miles per dollar.

DBS yuu isn’t the only card that works so check out the guide I’ve written on Singtel kiosks as well as a tip on charging more bills and services to your Singtel Bill.

Second option: pay on Singtel’s website

Another option would be to pay on Singtel’s website. The Merchant Category Code (MCC) is currently 4814 (Telecommunication Services including but not limited to prepaid phone services and recurring phone services).

Many cards offer their rewards on this category, though DBS yuu notably does not. Check out cards to use to pay for telco bills:
