Luggage Buddies Guide: How to Get Socket Switcher to Win Suitcase Scramble

Google is back with yet another mini-game for its Google Pay wallet app, and this time it’s travel related. If you remember Huat Pals (and unfortunately I do), you’d know how to play this game which shares pretty much the same concept.
The mini-game – Suitcase Scramble – appears to be a collaboration between Google and travel portal Klook, and you can win as much as S$100 cashback or up to S$6,000 in travel vouchers! The game will last from 9th to 22nd October 2023.
You will need a Google Pay account to play, so sign up if you don’t already have one:

Collect all 5 Luggage Buddies to win
To win, you need to collect all 5 Luggage Buddies. As with most games of this nature, only one is truly rare and the rest are just filler to make you feel that you are nearing a win. The 5 Luggage Buddies are:
- Fly-away Outfit
- Toothy Kit
- Beary Chouchou
- Gadget Guru
- Socket Switcher (rare piece according to Wen Hao)
Given how similar the game mechanic is to Huat Pals, the key to winning is to collect as many randomly generated luggage buddies as possible until you luck out and get the rare piece.
Daily Tasks
To get randomly generated luggage buddies, you need to do the following tasks:

| Make a FavePay transaction (at least S$5 after any FavePay cashback is applied) | 1 | Moderate |

| Send money to a friend (a least S$10) | 1 | Easy |
| Gift buddy to a friend (1 buddy per unique friend) | 5 | Easy |
The easy tasks
PayNow to merchants
PayNow to merchants is an easy task because you don’t actually have to make spend to get your luggage buddy. Just like Huat Pals, the following should work:
- Paying a bill via AXS (I have tested and can confirm this works)
- YouTrip top up (doesn’t work according to K)
- Dash top up (use code
DASH-OZ9G2for S$3) (there is a S$1 withdrawal fee) - ShopeePay top up (works according to Chew Jun Hao)
I paid S$5 to a credit card bill via AXS, and it’s a quick and easy way to satisfy this task without having to make any real spend.
Send money to a friend
This is another easy task, and you just need to find a hopefully trustworthy friend to transfer S$10 to. It does not need to be a unique friend, so you can pair up with someone and just trade your S$10 daily to get 1 randomly generated luggage buddy per day.
Gift buddy to a friend
This is another easy task but you need to collect a few luggage buddies first. To collect more luggage buddies, you can do the above tasks until you have duplicate copies of luggage buddies to give away. You may also put your request link in the group chat so that other players can send you their spare luggage buddies.
Once you have repeated copies of luggage buddies, use the group chat to give them away so that you can get randomly generated luggage buddies in return. Do this 5 times with unique people (which is where the group chat comes in useful) to get 5 luggage buddies.
Okay so how do I get Socket Switcher
Socket Switcher is the rare piece and would hence require… luck. Each randomly generated luggage buddy has a small chance of being Socket Switcher so the key is really just to keep getting randomly generated luggage buddies.
Doing the easy tasks every daily would get you 8 chances each day which increases your probability of getting the coveted Socket Switcher. So yes, there is no sure-fire way of getting it, but you can indeed increase your odds by consistently doing the tasks.
Player 2 (or 3 and 4) strategy
If you have family members with Google Pay, you can also consider using their accounts to increase the number of randomly generated luggage buddies you get each day. Again, the more randomly generated luggage buddies you get each day, the higher the chance of you getting Socket Switcher. Having more accounts thus increases your chances.
FavePay and movie tickets
Using Google Pay to make transactions with FavePay QR merchants or buy movie tickets can get you 1 luggage buddy each, but I wouldn’t do it. Such things can be paid for with credit cards, so you wouldn’t want to give up guaranteed card rewards for a small chance of getting the rare Socket Switcher.
The prizes
Even getting the Socket Switcher doesn’t guarantee that you’d get a super great reward.
The prizes are:
- Up to S$100 cashback
- Klook e-gift card up to S$100
- Activities & travel experiences worth up to S$95
- Hotel packages worth up to S$670
- Cruise experiences worth up to S$6,000
Note that “up to” should be a very familiar to all who chase rewards. Xris from the Speakeasy chat got lucky and won his prize barely a day after the game started… and got S$7 for his troubles. Not too bad for a “game”, but yeah I wouldn’t spend too much time on this.
