First Look: iChange Multi-Currency Wallet App – Get S$5 For Signing Up

iChange is a new multi-currency wallet app that allows you to convert between currencies. I don’t know about you, but I’m always happy to see another wallet app pop up and it’s been some time since the last one.

Here’s a quick look at this new app to see whether it’s worth our time and attention.

Signing up

Signing up is a pretty fuss-free and quick affair – just download the app and use your SingPass to get an account quickly. You also get instant S$5 in the app when you use my code WEE113, complete the registration and order the free physical card.

Update: you now need to spend a minimum of $10 in a single transaction for the referral reward to be paid.

The company behind it is SlideSG Pte Ltd which is licensed by MAS.

The app is as collaborative effort involving five money changers: Anua Group Money Exchangers, Ariza Money Exchange, Iakaba Money Exchange, Shenton Money Exchanger, and Shining Money Exchange. These money changers were awarded the Digital Acceleration Grant (DAG) by the MAS.

I guess the single most important factor whether this app is good depends on the rates it can offer. The first thing I noticed was that it allows you to compare across multiple money changers and highlights the best rate.

The rates seem to compare favourably with YouTrip’s:

Physical cash withdrawal

You can opt for digital currency to be used via the app or its card, or physical cash to be picked up at one of the money exchangers.

Here’s the difference in rates between digital and physical currencies for US dollar and Malaysian Ringgit:

Talking about Malaysian Ringgit, iChange app supports around 50 currencies. Pretty nifty and definitely beats YouTrip’s list of just 10 currencies.

Topping up is done via PayNow, bank transfer, or through a 7-11 outlet.

Definitely worth a try

With seemingly better rates, more currencies, and S$5 to start with, iChange app seems like another good tool we have for our travels. I will be trying it out for some upcoming travels, so stay subscribed if you want to get more updates about such stuff.
