January Deals: Great Start to the Year

Januarys tend to be a relatively soft month for deals – at least for the past couple of years – but January 2023 has been great. There is a whole bunch of promos and deals for most classes of products we care about, and let’s hope this keeps up for the rest of 2023.

Turnaround time for gift fulfilment

Do note that fulfilment of promos through a intermediary like SingSaver can take a few months, so apply if you are willing to wait. Usually, applying directly with the product provider can get you rewards faster, but SingSaver tends to have better promos. Moving forward, I will highlight the source of rewards more prominently.

Last chance for Citi Plus promo

Citi Plus is offering an excellent deal of S$100 when you open your account, an additional S$60 for holding a Citi credit card, and even more when you fund your account. The deal is going to be worse after 8th January, so this is the last weekend for you to grab the current promo:

Bank account promos

Aside from Citi Plus, other banking deals look good this month, and I’ve collated them over at the Savings page. Notable ones include S$188 for BonusSaver which is recently offering more than 4% p.a. in realistically achievable interest, and S$350 for HSBC EGA.

Excellent credit card deals

This month, we have three banks offering at least S$300 of sign-up promos at once. Citi is giving an excellent choice between an iPad and S$350, while StanChart is offering S$320 with no minimum spend required!

HSBC is also offering S$300 for selected credit cards, and they have been a relatively rare sight for great credit card promos so grab the deal when you have the chance.

Don’t forget also DBS and CIMB – not their highest ever promos, but both are offering S$250 sign-up gifts.

If you are willing to pay annual fees for a lifestyle card, and there are strong reasons to do so, there’s the Citi Prestige promo and the Amex Platinum Charge promo. Both sign-up offers are set to end later this month.

Cathay Pacific’s 15% bonus for miles conversion

While Singapore Air is perhaps the biggest frequent flyer programme in Singapore, it is not the only game in town. Cathay Pacific is offering 15% bonus miles when you transfer at least 20,000 miles from your bank points, and this offer is good until 31st January 2023.

While most points conversion take just a couple of days to process, it can take up to a week or two, so convert your points early as points that reach your Asia Miles account after 31st January 2023 will not accrue any bonus points.

Other promos

There are of course other deals like Kris+’s excellent Spend and Win campaign, and DBS’s 5% extra cashback promo (check your PayLah app), and we will probably see even more CNY promos happening over the next couple of weeks.

Stay subscribed to be kept informed of the latest and greatest deals… and a particular Google Pay “game”.
