It’s Giving Season: Make a Difference For Children From Low-income Families

Update: we raised $2,180 for needy children! Thanks to all who generously donated and chipped in!
Christmas is around the corner, and in the holiday spirit of giving let’s raise some funds to make a difference for those who are less fortunate than us. Last year, generous friends and readers of Sethisfy.com donated a total of more than $5,000 to charity.
This year’s charity organisation

This year, I hope we can reach $3,000 by donating generously to Children’s Wishing Well. If you are in the position to do so, I hope you can contribute some towards the cause. Otherwise, even sharing the campaign page would be great.
Founded in 2002, Children’s Wishing Well is a non-profit organisation and registered charity that provides a broad range of services for children and youth from low-income families nationwide. It includes supporting disadvantaged children’s educational and daily living needs.
Why donate?
Childhood is an important phase to learn and play, and some are less than fortunate in the circumstances in which they spend their formative years. Helping disadvantaged children is something that I want to do my small part for, and I hope you can chip in to level the playing field for them.
This year has been particularly rewarding in terms of cashback and rewards – things that disadvantaged families usually can’t get when they ironically need such gifts the most. Let’s share a little of our spoils with them by donating to worthy causes.
Also, if I’ve helped you save some money from buying things like ILPs or long-term savings plan… do consider putting just a fraction of those savings towards a good cause 😉
Advantages of donating
On top of the great feeling from doing a good deed, there are two financial benefits to making donations: you can earn card rewards, and you can also qualify for tax relief. While it may seem weird to think of tangible rewards when one donates, these benefits can amplify your giving since you are always free to further give away the benefits you derive from your donations.
Card rewards
You can earn card rewards with most Amex Basic Cards such as the Amex True Cashback. UOB Absolute should also give you its 1.7% cashback. Currently giving 1.75% instant cashback, Friz should also award its rewards since the only two exclusions are e-wallets and AXS transactions.
You can also use GrabPay directly on Giving.sg, although it is unlikely for that to give Grab points or help with the recent Grab challenge. Update: LM from the chat group reported that he got Grab points for Giving.sg
Giving.sg is waiving transaction fees until 31st March 2022, so 100% of your donations will reach the charity organisation even if you earn rewards from your card.
Tax relief
Donations of at least $50 for this campaign also gets tax donation relief of 250%. This means that if you donate $100, you would get a tax relief of $250 on your income tax. If this amount falls in the 11.5% tax bracket, for example, you save $28.75 on your income tax.
You can actually afford to donate more since the tax savings can be quite substantial.
