App of the Year 2024: yuu App
There really haven’t been many apps relating to personal finance launched in the past couple of years, and I can’t help but feel that there is a certain lack of energy in the space. In fact, worse than just stagnancy, useful apps like XNAP seem to be going the way of Jipay and Friz (read: dead), while once rewarding apps like Kris+ are steadily rolling back their generosity.
Against this backdrop, the yuu App has instead been amping up its value proposition, offering nice surprises both small and big. It’s therefore my pick for App of the Year 2024 and here are my reasons why… and it’s not just because of teh peng.
A great app for the unexciting parts of life
Since its inception, the yuu rewards programme and its accompanying app have been labelled an “aunty app”, thanks to its heavy focus on all kinds of grocery-related deals. Over the past year or so, it has indeed been offering pretty fantastic promos on everything from biscuits to rice.
Depending on the kind of person you are, heavily discounted supermarket items might be a delightful bonus or something totally irrelevant. Beyond just grocery items, however, there are also often offers from foodpanda, Gojek, and Toast Box which I often take advantage of.
In a time where high cost of living is something we talk about virtually every other day, it’s nice to be have something that helps offset everyday expenses. I rely on foodpanda for my meals quite often, and getting discounted vouchers and yuu Points for my takeouts and deliveries is pretty awesome. Also, few things in life beat Toast Box teh peng for a mere 300 points, and speaking of which – great news, it’s been extended to 26th October 2026:

These aren’t exciting, life-changing rewards of course, but as I consider my well-stocked fridge of Tiger Radlers (practically free, thanks to the yuu App) and all the S$2.30 Ferrero Rochers I’ve bought with the app for a New Year thing I have with my friends, I have to say that the boring stuff is indeed pretty nice. Maybe I’m an aunty after all.

And now an app that allows for exciting life experiences in the air
With the recent inclusion of KrisFlyer conversion, yuu App has changed the game entirely – not only is the app great for everyday expenses, it now allows you to unlock life experiences. If “boring” isn’t for you, your yuu points can now become business class flights… provided you have been farming your yuu points.
That’s exactly what I have been doing since DBS yuu started giving 35X yuu points, and my stash of yuu Points suddenly became enough for a few business class flights. Conversion of points is also instant, free, and requires only a small amount of points to start, making the yuu App suddenly a wonderful tool for miles chasers who have previously ignored everything yuu.
Anyway, it isn’t too late to start and your procrastination is somewhat rewarded – you can get bonus 2,000 points to start when you sign up for the app with code Q1Y4J3GW before 31st December 2024 and link your DBS yuu card to it.
DBS yuu’s earn rate extended to 30th June 2025 (at least)
As companion to the DBS yuu, the yuu App’s attractiveness depends heavily on the credit card being good. Thankfully, the app now shows an end date of 30th June 2025 which is still quite some time away.

This doesn’t mean that DBS yuu’s 36x earn rate will definitely end on that date; yuu App has been showing what I call a placeholder date for the longest time, and that date has been constantly pushed back. Now, we know that there should be at least 6 months left for this gravy train. It’s possible to earn as much as 36,000 miles or S$648 in rebates with just one card, or double those amounts if you are able to max out 2 DBS yuu cards.

Honourable mention – heymax
Last year’s winner, heymax, is the honourable mention for this year’s App of the Year. In a world where good things don’t last and great things get nerfed, simply maintaining status quo can by itself be a really good thing. To that end, heymax hasn’t changed all that much since last year, and I consider that worth celebrating.
You can still use the app to look up the best cards to use for a particular transaction, and shop through their portal to get extra miles on top of your card rewards, and heymax has also been offering little promos here and there throughout the year.
Hopefully they wow us in 2025 to reclaim their Star, and until then they remain a solid app to use for extra miles.
