Horrifying: SP GreenUP Nerfed to Near Oblivion; Redeem Now

A seemingly innocuous screenshot has been shared in the Telegram group and it has huge repercussions for those with CapitaStar STAR$.

Please note that with effect from 1 Sep 2021, GreenUP users can claim up to three (3) CapitaStar e-deal redemptions per month, per user linked to a CapitaStar account. Your plant level and leaves remain the same.

For those with sizeable STAR$ stashes, three redemptions per month is a tiny number, and it’s made worse by the fact that there are only four months left until SP GreenUP concludes this promotion. Perhaps tellingly, the $100 eCapitaVoucher redemption was also removed recently which leaves only the $5 option available, making the maximum eCapitaVoucher redemption available a paltry $15 a month.

Stuck with STAR$

Even more unfortunate for many users like myself, CapitaStar’s app only allows a maximum of $999.99 of eCapitaVoucher to be stored within the app. This means that once you have reached this amount, you can’t take advantage of SP GreenUP’s 30% discount to convert STAR$ into more eCapitaVoucher.

The only solution now seems to be to spend one’s eCapitaVoucher stash today or tomorrow to free up more space to convert one’s remaining STAR$.

Less than 48 hours’ notice

Users tend to be quite tolerant when rewards are nerfed provided sufficient notice is provided. Less than 48 hours’ notice, on the other hand, is extremely poor form of whoever was behind this decision, and paints SP and CapitaMall in a bad light.

People have spent time and effort to complete SP GreenUP’s uninspired challenges while struggling with the frequent loading animations, and not giving sufficient time for us to make full use of the rewards leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. Some may have already started growing their Plant only for this to happen before they can fully enjoy the spoils.

Redeem your STAR$ now

If you are able to redeem your STAR$ at a discount, you only have up to end of 31st August 2021 to do so, and I can’t think of any reason not to.

If you have Grab points and wish to convert them to STAR$ now, you can redeem it at the usual rate of 5,000 Grab points to 2,500 STAR$ up to 5 times in the Grab app. This allows you to redeem your Grab points at roughly 0.285 cents each instead of the usual 0.2 cents.

Conclusion

Experienced rewards chasers are probably sanguine about such nerfs because it’s part and parcel of playing the game. It was a good run while it lasted, but it would probably be a lot more courteous if they had provided at least a week’s notice for people to get their affairs in order.

Excuse me while I run to the nearest CapitaMall for a most begrudging shopping spree.
