YouTrip Adds Apple Pay Support, Offers up to 10% Cashback on Public Transportation

YouTrip is celebrating their 5th birthday by announcing the addition of Apple Pay support. To mark the launch of Apple Pay for iPhone and Apple Watch users, they are running a promo for public transportation fares – get up to 10% cashback when you use YouTrip via Apple Pay to pay for bus/MRT rides. This promo lasts from 15th August to 15th September 2023.
Those not so fond of Apple devices will get up to 5% cashback on non-Apple Pay public transportation transactions instead.

The cashback is “up to” 10% or 5% because it is given by spending tiers rather than a flat percentage of your spend. If you spend S$20, you get S$2 in cashback. A S$50 spend will still only get S$2 in cashback. The next tier is at S$100 for S$10 cashback followed by S$200 for S$20 cashback.
Using the YouTrip card direct for Simply Go transactions gets only half the rewards.
SimplyGo Spend Amount | Apple Pay | YouTrip Card |
S$20 | S$2 | S$1 |
S$100 | S$10 | S$5 |
S$200 | S$20 | S$10 |
Note that enrolment is required, and you will need to activate this in the Perks tab of the YouTrip app. The terms and conditions for this promo are found here.

Excellent deal: get an iPad with CIMB credit cards! Free iPad also available with OCBC 365.

Paying with phones is the default
To be honest, the promo isn’t all that fantastic. 10% is a decent rate, I guess, but that is only if you hit nice and round S$20 or S$100 in spending. But I’m not one to look a gift horse in the mouth so I’ll be taking advantage of this promo to clear some idle cash in my YouTrip account.
The bigger story here is that we can finally use YouTrip with our phones like decent, modern folk, and this might just tilt me to using YouTrip more often than competitors like Instarem Amaze… until Instarem stops teasing us and finally releases their Apple Pay support, that is.
I intend to do a shootout between different travel cards soon, so stay subscribed if you want to see comparisons on what payment option is the best for your overseas travels.
