Conversions via Kris+ incurs a haircut

For the uninitiated, converting your bank points via Kris+ incurs a 15% haircut, and quick Math would tell us that a 10% boost does not offset the lowered number of miles we’d get.

Redemption ModeRateMin. RedemptionFee

Kris+1 DBS Point = 1.7 Miles100 DBS Points per blockFree

With the promo, the haircut becomes 6.5% instead of the usual 15%.

Small redemptions may make sense

Despite the haircut, there are still good reasons why one might opt for converting their DBS Points through Kris+.

Because conversions via Kris+ are free, it makes more sense to convert a small number of DBS Points through Kris+ than to do it through DBS and pay the conversion fee of S$27.25.

If you value miles at 1.5 cents each, a 6.5% haircut means that you’d “break even” at around 28,000 miles redeemed. This means that if you are redeeming more than 28,000 miles, you should do it via DBS and pay the conversion fee. For redemptions smaller than this 28,000 miles (14,000 DBS Points), you should do it via Kris+, assuming you value miles at 1.5 cents each.

This “break even” number decreases if your valuation of miles increases, and I’ve talked about this in an older article discussing Kris+ conversions.

Given the small redemption blocks and free conversions, those looking to convert a relatively small number of DBS Points may find this promo worth looking at.

Kris+ conversions are instant

Conversions via Kris+ are also instant which makes it useful for those who need their miles quickly, perhaps for things like Spontaneous Escapes.
