Destinations in Business Class
Pickings are pretty slim for Business Class flights this month. Malé is possibly the only city that I might want to book for this month.
| Region | Cities Available (Business Class) |
|---|---|
| South East Asia | Jakarta (15,400 miles) Bali (15,400 miles) Kuala Lumpur (15,400 miles) Medan (15,400 miles) Surabaya (15,400 miles) Bangkok (17,500 miles) Ho Chi Minh City (17,500 miles) Manila (17,500 miles) |
| West Asia & Africa | Ahmedabad* (31,500 miles) Bengaluru* (31,500 miles) Chennai* (31,500 miles) Colombo (31,500 miles) Dhaka (31,500 miles) Delhi* (31,500 miles) Hyderabad* (31,500 miles) Kathmandu* (31,500 miles) Kolkata* (31,500 miles) Malé (31,500 miles) |
| Southwest Pacific | Cairns (50,400 miles) |
Destinations in Premium Economy
The list is even shorter this time for Premium Economy. One could consider a return trip to Shanghai, or perhaps fly to Shanghai and return from Beijing.
I personally don’t feel Premium Economy is worth considering. They don’t feel luxurious compared to Business Class, nor are they affordable compared to Economy or Budget flights.
| Region | Cities Available (Premium Economy Class) |
|---|---|
| North Asia | Beijing* (25,200 miles) Shanghai (25,200 miles) |
| West Asia & Africa | Delhi* (25,200 miles) Mumbai* (25,200 miles) Johannesburg* (36,050 miles) |
Destinations in Economy
The story is the same for Economy flights which are also pretty limited in choice this time. Even Bali isn’t available!
Shenzhen looks like an interesting choice at 21,700 miles pus around S$82 of taxes.
| Region | Cities Available (Economy Class) |
|---|---|
| South East Asia | Brunei (5,600 miles) Jakarta (5,600 miles) Kuala Lumpur (5,600 miles) Bangkok (9,100 miles) Hanoi (9,100 miles) Ho Chi Minh City (9,100 miles) Manila (9,100 miles) Phuket (9,100 miles) Phnom Penh (9,100 miles) Siem Reap* (9,100 miles) |
| North Asia | Shenzhen (10,850 miles) Beijing* (14,350 miles) Beijing Daxing* (14,350 miles) |
| West Asia & Africa | Colombo (13,300 miles) Dhaka (13,300 miles) Delhi* (13,300 miles) Hyderabad* (13,300 miles) Kathmandu* (13,300 miles) Male (13,300 miles) |
| Southwest Pacific | Darwin (14,350 miles) Cairns* (20,300 miles) |
Scoot Destinations
It’s the first time Scoot destinations are added to Spontaneous Escapes, and I think a few destinations are well worth considering. Taipei stands out to me with a return trip possible and it is quite fairly priced.
| Country | Cities Available (Scoot) |
|---|---|
| Vietnam | Ho Chi Minh City (3,825 miles) |
| Indonesia | Denpasar (Bali)* (3,825 miles) Pekanbaru (2,125 miles) Padang (2,125 miles) Surabaya* (3,825 miles) Palembang (3,825 miles) Kertajati (2,125 miles) Makassar (3,825 miles) Balikpapan (3,825 miles) Semarang (3,825 miles) Medan (3,825 miles) Belitung (2,125 miles) |
| Malaysia | Melaka (1,275 miles) Kota Kinabalu (1,700 miles) Kuching (1,700 miles) Penang (1,275 miles) Kuantan (1,275 miles) Ipoh (1,275 miles) Kuala Lumpur* (1,275 miles) |
| Thailand | Chiang Rai (8,925 miles) Chiang Mai (8,925 miles) Phuket (2,125 miles) Koh Samui (8,925 miles) |
| Japan | Haneda* (10,625 miles) Narita* (10,625 miles) Osaka* (10,625 miles) |
| Taiwan | Taipei (5,525 miles) |
| China | Shenyang* (10,200 miles) Tianjin* (10,200 miles) Qingdao* (10,200 miles) Nanjing (10,200 miles) Hangzhou* (10,200 miles) Wuhan* (10,200 miles) Shantou* (10,200 miles) |
| Australia | Sydney (10,625 miles) |
| India | Amritsar* (6,800 miles) Chennai* (6,800 miles) |
How I calculate whether a flight is worth it
Personally, I calculate the cost of each flight by using a 1.5 cents per mile valuation. A return trip to Taipei, for instance, costs just 11,050 miles plus around S$85 of taxes with this promo. 11,050 miles are worth S$165.75 at a 1.5 cents per mile valuation, and thus the trip will cost me S$250.75 in miles and taxes. Scoot sells flights to Taipei at around S$250 for May 2026, so this is a pretty fair redemption.
Another example would be a return trip to Bangkok in Business Class which costs 35,000 miles and around S$100 in taxes. This itinerary will cost me S$625 (35,000 × 1.5¢ + S$100). Comparing this number to what Singapore Airlines sells their Business Class tickets would almost certainly make this look like a steal, but this is because airlines tend to sell Business Class tickets at very high prices. The real question would be more along the lines of – am I willing to pay S$625 for a Business Class flight? If so, I proceed with the booking, and take it that I’ve paid S$625 for the flight, instead of, y’know, thinking that I got a very high valuation per mile.
