Rare Deal: Get Additional Cash Gifts For Amex Cards – One Week Only

For a week only from 20th to 27th March 2024, get bonus cash gifts on top of usual sign-up rewards for American Express credit cards! There was a time when American Express shifted its focus to higher-end cards, but this seems to have changed with this rare deal.

Cashback deal: 3% cashback + S$200 cash

The Amex True Cashback card is as fuss-free a cashback card as it comes. You can get 1.5% cashback on anything you can charge to the card (aside from Grab top-ups). Your first S$5,000 in the first 6 months owning the card even comes with an upsized 3% cashback too.

Now is a great time to sign up for it as you can get as much as S$200 cash! Recent deals have seen CapitaLand or Dairy Farm vouchers of similar amounts being dangled, but remember: cash is king! But vouchers have an opportunity cost to them so I would say that the cash offer is the better deal.

Not sure what to spend on? Just buy S$500 grocery vouchers and you can get the S$200 sign-up reward plus S$15 cashback (based on the 3% cashback).

Which to pick

If you’re purely into cashback, there is only one option here so there’s not much to choose from. Amex True Cashback is a great card to use for things like renewing road tax or passport where most other cards don’t give their rewards.

The miles offers, though, are quite interesting. The base Amex KrisFlyer card is a lot more fuss-free with a first-year fee waiver and just S$500 of minimum spend but the Ascend gives quite a bit of value for its annual fee. If you are able to use the perks given by the Ascend, I would say go for that since your annual fee is more than made up by the bonus gifts given.

What to spend on?

You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards, and note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when signing.

Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier.

Do check out this article on what you can spend on to meet the minimum spend:
