Maybank x CardUp Promo: Discounted 1.73% Fee For New/Existing CardUp Users

Until 31st March 2025, get a significantly discounted fee from as low as 1.73% on CardUp when you use eligible Maybank cards with the appropriate promo codes. This is applicable to new and existing CardUp users alike, although if you have not used CardUp before you would want to use my code SETHISFY for a S$30 fee waiver on your first transaction before taking advantage of this promo for subsequent payments.

This promo will allow you to reap more rewards on payments like income tax, mortgage, MCST and more.

Use the promo code for new users first

If you have not used CardUp before, signing up and using my code below gets you S$30 off the service fee, which means you enjoy 0% fee on your first transaction as long as it is S$1,154 or below.

You are free to use any Visa, Mastercard or China UnionPay credit card for this new user promo. Read my guide on CardUp/ipaymy for more info on these services.

Promo details for Maybank x CardUp

After you are an existing CardUp user, you can use Maybank Platinum Visa card to enjoy a reduced 1.73% service fee with promo code MB173. This is applicable to all domestic transactions and can be used multiple times without a limit until 31st March 2025.

At the same time, there is also a separate promo code for tax payments if you use Maybank Horizon Visa. This isn’t an attractive option, however, because you only get 0.4 miles per dollar using this card. Nonetheless, I have included the details in the table below.

Keep more cashback with the reduced service fee

Note that the fee is also calculated as eligible spend for your Maybank Platinum Card. This means that if you opt to pay S$2,000 to IRAS or your mortgage via CardUp, you will incur S$34.60 making your total amount charged to your card S$2,034.60. This is relatively inefficient as you have exceeded your S$2,000 spending requirement. Instead, you should charge S$1,965.99 so that the fee is S$34.01, making the total amount charged to your card a round S$2,000.

These are the amounts you should pay via CardUp to meet the various spend requirements of Maybank Platinum Visa optimally:

Amount Paid to Your BillCardUp Fee
(1.73%)
Total Amount Eligible For Cashback
S$294.90S$5.10S$300
S$983S$17S$1,000
S$1,965.99S$34.01S$2,000

With Maybank Platinum Visa’s ability to earn you 3.33% cashback on CardUp transactions, the reduced fee from this promo lets you earn more from your income tax, mortgage, and other bills that normally wouldn’t earn card rewards. There was a scare recently that mortgage transactions were going to be disallowed on services like CardUp, but that decision has since been reversed and so we can continue earning rewards on our monthly home loan payments.
