Guide: How to Put Your Credit Card Bills on GIRO Payment
Here’s a guide on how to put your credit card bill payment on a GIRO arrangement so that the bill is paid automatically.
The process of setting up GIRO payments to your credit cards is unfortunately still very manual, and physical forms are still being used. eGIRO has been a thing for years, but I’m not aware if any bank is currently using that for credit card payment.
I tried to tell the Minister in charge of the Smart Nation initiative that it’s 2024 and we should really be moving away from physical forms, but she told me that you don’t need much ink to print a GIRO form*
*this did not happen please do not POFMA me

Step 1: download GIRO forms
First, you have to get the GIRO form of the credit card you are trying to pay, not the bank you are intending to pay with.
For example, if you wish to use GIRO to pay for your DBS card, for instance, download the DBS GIRO form:
| Bank | GIRO Form | Business Reply Envelope |
| American Express | Download Here | Already in form |
| CIMB | Download Here | Already in form |
| Citibank | Download Here | Download Here |
| DBS | Download Here | Download Here |
| DCS | Download Here | Already in form |
| HSBC | Download Here | Already in form |
| Maybank | Download Here | Already in form |
| OCBC | Download Here | Download Here |
| Standard Chartered | Download Here | Already in form |
| UOB | Download Here | Already in form |
Step 2: fill in the forms accordingly
If you are intending to pay your DBS credit card(s) with your HSBC bank account, fill up the DBS GIRO form with your DBS credit card details.
For the banking account to be debited, fill in your HSBC bank account details.
You can select Full Payment or just to pay off the Minimum Payment itself, so choose according to your wishes. If you select Minimum Payment, you obviously have to pay off the rest of the bill by other means to avoid interest.
Step 3: send the form back to the bank of your credit card(s)
After filling in the form, you have to send it to the bank of your credit card(s). Again, using the example of paying off a DBS credit card with HSBC, send the forms to DBS (and not HSBC). You may do so by means of the business reply envelope which many banks already include with their GIRO application form.
You may also be able to drop the form off at one of your credit card bank’s physical branches. Wen Hao has helpfully detailed his experience in the chat group.
Step 4: wait for the GIRO arrangement to be successfully processed
It can take weeks or even months for the GIRO arrangement to be effected. In the meantime, pay off your credit cards by other means to avoid late fees or interest.
Your bank – both the credit card bank and the debiting bank – might send you a notification whether the GIRO arrangement has been successfully arranged. It could be in form of SMS or physical mail. From my own experience, HSBC informed me via SMS that GIRO deductions will happen for my DBS credit cards.
Most credit card statements should also indicate that there is a GIRO arrangement put in place. This is what I see on my DBS card statement:

For this statement, my DBS Live Fresh will not be paid via GIRO while my DBS Woman’s World Mastercard would be.

GIRO Deduction Dates
Here is what I currently know about when the GIRO deduction will take place, so make sure you maintain enough funds in your debiting bank account. Do provide data points in the comments or Telegram and I will update the table accordingly.
Having insufficient funds will lead to an unsuccessful deduction, and that may incur charges depending on your bank’s policy.
| Bank | GIRO Deduction Day |
| American Express | 10 calendar days before due date |
| CIMB | ❓ |
| Citibank | 2 working days before due date |
| DBS | On due date itself |
| DCS | ❓ |
| HSBC | On due date itself |
| Maybank | ❓ |
| OCBC | ❓ |
| Standard Chartered | ❓ |
| UOB | 1 working day before due date |
