Mastercard, Visa, or Amex?
If you’re wondering which version to pick, I would say that the choice is between Visa and Amex.
American Express is not as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, but the Amex version of UOB PRVI Miles has a couple of features that the Visa or Mastercard variants do not. For the Amex version, spending S$50,000 within a single year gets you 20,000 bonus miles. You also get 2 airport transfer rides per quarter if you meet S$1,000 of spend in foreign currency transactions within the quarter.
Between the Visa and Mastercard versions, I feel that there is little point in picking Mastercard now that UOB has excluded Amaze transactions from earning rewards. I would thus pick the Visa version as CardUp seems to have more promos for Visa than Mastercard.
Long story short: pick Visa if you intend to use CardUp, pick Amex if you want free airport transfer rides

Is paying S$261.60 for this deal worth it?
To qualify for the deal, an annual fee of S$261.60 has to be paid. People who are no stranger to the game of miles will know that miles are worth paying for, provided the price is right. In this case, I feel that the price is more than right since you are paying S$261.60 for 46,000 bonus miles.
Conservatively, miles are worth around 1 cent each, and quite a bit more if you are someone who values things like business class flights. At 1 cent each, 46,000 miles is S$460 while at a 1.5-cent valuation they are worth S$690.
You also get the miles from the UOB PRVI Miles’ base earn rate of 1.4 miles per dollar for local spend, 2.4 miles per dollar on foreign currency spend, and 3 miles per dollar for certain currency spend (IDR, MYR, THB or VND). It’s a particularly good deal if you have a vacation over the next two months and can meet the minimum spend with your holiday expenses.
What to spend on?
You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.
Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.
