Spend Goals

The spend goal is determined by DBS seemingly on your spending habits on their cards. Based on a few family and friends’ accounts, bigger spenders are “rewarded” with higher spend goals.

Here are some of the amounts I have found. Let us know in the comments or Telegram if you have a different amount.

Spend GoalCashback Percentage
S$1,00010%
S$2,0005%
S$5,0002%

Those with a spend goal of S$1,000 would find this a very appealing promo as getting S$100 cashback on S$1,000 spend is bonus 10% cashback on top of their usual card rewards. Even 5% at the S$2,000 tier isn’t too bad if you can hit the spend requirement.

Eligible Cards

The list of eligible DBS/POSB cards include:

  • POSB Everyday
  • DBS Live Fresh
  • DBS Altitude
  • DBS ESSO
  • DBS Live Fresh Student Card
  • DBS SAFRA (credit/debit)
  • DBS Takashimaya
  • DBS UnionPay Debit
  • DBS Vantage
  • DVS Visa Debit
  • DBS Woman’s / DBS Woman’s World Mastercard

You can use different cards to meet the spend goal as the minimum spend is cumulative across all DBS/POSB cards you own. Any spend made by supplementary cardholder(s) will accrue to the principal cardholder’s spend goal.

Eligible Transactions

Note that only in-person dining and shopping spend would be counted towards the spend goal as online transactions are specifically excluded.

How I might use this promo

This is a pretty good promo for those going overseas over the next couple of months, and the timing is just right for Apple’s new devices slated to arrive over the next couple of weeks or so. I have accounts with S$1,000 and S$2,000 spend goals, and together with the DBS Live Fresh promo it’s going to be quite a good way to pick up a new Apple device (or anything you might want to buy).

Assuming I buy a S$1,000 Apple Watch (or other shopping spend) with the DBS Live Fresh Card:

ItemAmount
Purchase of S$1,000S$1,000
DBS Live Fresh CashbackS$53 (max S$50 + 0.3% cashback)
Overseas Spend PromoS$100
Forex FeeS$0 (offset by DBS Live Fresh promo)
Effective CostS$847
(15.3% rebate)

You could substitute Apple Watch with any other item as long as it falls under DBS promo’s shopping categories.

The S$2,000 tier isn’t that fantastic, but here is the Math anyway:

ItemAmount
Purchase of S$2,000S$2,000
DBS Live Fresh CashbackS$56 (max S$50 + 0.3% cashback)
Overseas Spend PromoS$100
Forex FeeS$15 (max S$50 rebate by DBS Live Fresh promo)
Effective CostS$1,859
(7.05% rebate)

At S$2,000 and above, I would most probably look at using cards like DBS Vantage or DBS Altitude instead. If I could break up the spend, I would put about S$877 on DBS Live Fresh to max its 6% cashback first, followed by DBS Vantage/Altitude.
