CardUp: New and Existing Users Get Discounted 1.75% Fee For Property Tax Payment

Until 31st January 2024, CardUp has a promo that works for existing users: get a reduced fee of 1.75% for making property tax payment with code SETHPROP175. This represents an opportunity to buy miles for cheap, or earn the difference between your cashback card and the fees paid.

While new users can also use this promo, you should use the new user promo first before using this code for property tax payment.

New users – get free cashback/miles for your first payment; guide available

If you are totally clueless to what CardUp can do, I have written a guide to introduce newcomers to the payment service. Also, new users get a promo code for fee waiver on their first payment, so it is an opportunity to get some miles and cashback for free.

Miles buying opportunity from 1.07 cents onwards

With the reduced fee comes cheaper cost to procure miles at:

Earn RateCard(s)Cost Per Mile (1.75% service fee)
1.6 miles per dollarDBS Insignia, Citi Ultima1.07¢
1.5 miles per dollarDBS Vantage1.15¢
1.4 miles per dollarUOB PRVI1.23¢
1.3 miles per dollarCiti PrestigeDBS AltitudeOCBC 90°N1.32¢
1.2 miles per dollarCiti PremierMilesStanChart Journey1.43¢

My personal barometer is to buy miles at below 1.25 cents each as far as possible. CardUp’s promo hence makes sense for cards that earn at least 1.4 miles per dollar each.

Given that many miles cards require you to redeem in blocks of 10,000 miles, buying some miles above 1.25 cents each isn’t too bad an idea if you are short a few miles.

Cashback arbitrage

With a relatively low fee, you also get the chance to earn the difference between some card’s cashback rate and the 1.7% fee charged.

Maybank Platinum Visa3.33% (quarterly payments required)
OCBC FRANK gives 8% on online transaction with a max cashback of S$25 and minimum spend amount of S$800. 3.13% is derived by taking S$25 as a percentage of S$800.

Good chance to score some rewards

For users who are already using CardUp to score card rewards, having fee discounts are always welcomed. Those who have yet to try the service out should really get started. (Cheap) business class beckons!
