Register here and make your spend quickly.

Do note the terms and conditions specified by Grab, notably the exclusions on:

  • MCC 6300 – insurance sales, underwriting and premiums
  • MCC 9399 – government services
  • MCC 8220 – Colleges, Junior Colleges, Universities and Professional Schools

How to maximise this promo?

Topping Up Your Grab Wallet

To get the most of the promo, you would want to use the best card to top up your Grab wallet. Do it with the Amex True Cashback card which is the sole card remaining that explicitly gives rewards on Grab top-ups. (As pointed out in the Telegram group by Joe and Andrew, there is a limited promotion where other Amex cards get 1 mpd on top-ups if you’re into miles instead)

American Express unabashedly advertises this fact that you can get 1.5% cashback on your top-ups. If you don’t already have an Amex True Cash Back card, new to card applicants even get 3% on the first 5,000 of spend!

1.5% cashback on transactions except Grab top-ups

My experience applying for Amex cards is that they are quite quick with approving and issuing the card; I got mine 2 working days after applying, so it should still be in time for this promo if you apply now🤞🏻 Even if you don’t get it in time, be prepared for the next time Grab ever has a similar promotion.

Your effective cashback can be as high as 3% (top up with Amex), 0.8% in Grab points, plus 5% from this Power Up Challenge, totalling a really handsome 8.8% rebate in all!

Spending your Grab credits

One way you can easily clock $1,000 of spend without actually adding to your monthly expenses is to use it to pay bills like insurance. While Grab excludes insurance premiums from this promo and the fact that many policies do not accept cards for premiums, you can use a service like ipaymy to pay for your bills.

In fact, this side-steps the exclusion imposed by Grab for insurance premiums because ipaymy has a different MCC from insurance payments.

Also, you can pay just about any other vendor that doesn’t accept card, such as tax or condo maintenance fees. As long as you can make your payment via bank transfer, it is likely that you can use ipaymy to make payment. Learn more about ipaymy here.

Register for an ipaymy account here and get $30 off your first payment! That’s around $1,330 of spend you can put on your credit card for free and earn free miles/cashback!
