Which card to pick?
UOB has some of the strongest cashback and miles cards available, and there are plenty of options so it may be a bit difficult to choose.
For cashback, I would pick the UOB EVOL which is now a very good card to use for local and overseas spend. Locally, it can give decent cashback on contactless or online spend as well as selected gyms and telco spending. Coupled with its lack of forex fees overseas, it can also be used during your holidays instead of switching to another card.
When it comes to miles, UOB Visa Signature is an easy to use card that gives 4 miles per dollar as long as you can hit at least S$1,000 of spend within the statement month. It gives its earn rate on either local contactless payments, or overseas spend, making it a very simple card to use without multiple conditions.

What to spend on?
You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.
Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.
