New Deal: HSBC Credit Card Sign-up Offer
New year new deals – here is HSBC’s new sign-up offer for the first month of the year!
Promo details
Offering a choice of S$250 cash or 3 gadget options, HSBC’s deal for January 2024 requires just S$500 of eligible spending. Applicants would have until the end of the next month from card approval to clock their spending too. That means you have until 29th February 2024 to make your purchases if your card is approved within January.
🆕 A new HSBC cardholder refers to those who do not currently have a principal HSBC credit card and have not cancelled any in the past 12 months.
💳 An existing HSBC cardholder refers to those who have not cancelled any card in the past 12 months, and their existing cards were issued more than 12 months ago.
⚠️ It’s possible to be neither a new nor existing cardholder if you do not meet any of the two definitions above. Refer to the terms and conditions for specific terms.
Cards to pick
HSBC Revolution is my favourite card of the bunch with its versatile earn rate of either 4 miles per dollar or 2.5% cashback. Don’t forget also that HSBC EGA bank account can give you additional 1% cashback on your HSBC credit card spend.
Pure cashback users may want to consider the HSBC Advance instead. You get 1.5% cashback for spending S$2,000 or lower within the month, and 2.5% cashback if you spend more than that. The additional cashback also applies here, making this a relatively simple 3.5% cashback card for larger purchases.
Remember, TravelOne does not affect your eligibility for this promo! See the section at the end of this article for more details.
Sign up for HSBC EGA first
Talking about HSBC EGA account, if you are intending to get both the account and a HSBC credit card, it is recommended you sign up for the account first (disable content blockers).
Having a credit card with HSBC would mean that you cannot sign up for their account online. You will have to do it at a branch if you get the credit card first. This is a thing, for some reason, so take note if you do want to get HSBC EGA.

What to spend on?
You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.
Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.
Do check out this article on what you can spend on to meet the minimum spend:
TravelOne does not count as an “existing card”
If you have a HSBC TravelOne or HSBC Visa Infinite, you can still count as a new cardholder if you do not own any other HSBC credit cards or cancelled any in the past 12 months. To make things simple, think of these two cards as from “another bank”.
Like how having or cancelling a DBS card doesn’t affect your ability to get rewards from StanChart’s sign-up offers, having Bank B’s cards does not affect your sign-up rewards with Bank A, and you can even sign up for cards from both Bank A and B to enjoy both banks’ rewards.
