Worth It? Get MacBook Neo From S$420 With Credit Card Application
Apple’s latest MacBook Neo is out today and it’s one of the most value for money Apple products you can get. Now, it’s even possible to get it from as low as S$420 to S$450 when you apply for eligible credit cards below.
Is it worth it?
MacBook Neo retails for S$849
Considering MacBook Neo retails for S$849, topping up S$420 or S$450 means that you are getting S$429 or S$399 value from your credit card application.

Here is what you can expect to top up based on the card you are applying for:
| Card | Cash Gift | MacBook Neo |
|---|---|---|
| HSBC Cards | S$400 | Top up S$420 (S$429 value) |
| Citi SMRT | S$450 | Top up S$420 (S$429 value) |
| Other Citi Cards | S$380 | Top up S$450 (S$399 value) |
| OCBC Cards | S$370 | Top up S$450 (S$399 value) |
Immediately, you should be able to tell that this doesn’t make that much sense for Citi SMRT. You should just opt for S$450 cash, and buy the MacBook Neo at S$849, essentially topping up just S$399.
For the other cards, the value of opting for the top-up is a little higher than what you would get from the cash gifts, but there are a couple of reasons why you might want to just opt for cash (or one of the other gifts).

You can get the MacBook Neo today at cheaper than S$849
When you buy the MacBook Neo from Apple’s website or store, you can get it as early as today. SingSaver, as attractive as their sign-up gifts are, tends to take a few months to handle gift fulfilment.
Unless one is totally cash-strapped, I think it’s better to opt for the cash option, buy and enjoy the MacBook Neo today, and wait for the cash to come in later.
Moreover, using a card like Citi SMRT or HSBC Revolution to buy it means that your overall purchase is cheaper. At S$849 and 5% cashback, the effective cost of the device is just S$806.55.
If you qualify for education discount, the MacBook Neo is even more affordable at S$729.
Which gift option to pick?
The best choice, in my opinion, would be 25,000 Max Miles which are currently offered as a gift choice across Citi, HSBC, and OCBC cards.
Max Miles can be used to offset your flight bookings at a rate of 1.8 cents per mile. 25,000 Max Miles would hence be worth S$450. For instance, if your air tickets cost you S$396, you can use 22,000 Max Miles to get a reimbursement of S$396. You also get to keep all your credit card rewards from booking the flight.
HeyMax also allows the conversion of Max Miles into Accor Live Limitless (ALL) points at a 1:1 ratio. 2,000 points can offset €40 (~SS$59.17) when you book rooms with the hotel chain, resulting in a 2.96 cents per Max Mile valuation. This puts 25,000 Max Miles at almost S$740 of value, provided you use it for hotel bookings with ALL.
