Is 20% off Economy Saver rates good?
The 20% discount is on Saver rates required. For instance, Saver rates for Bangkok in Economy is 13,500 miles each way, and it will be discounted to 10,800 miles under this promo. Taxes are still payable:

A cursory look on Singapore Airlines shows the same flight being sold for S$248. Since you still have to pay S$98.10 in taxes, your 21,600 miles will essentially offset S$149.90 (ticket price of S$248 – taxes of S$98.10). Redeeming 21,600 miles to avoid paying S$149.90 means giving up your miles at 0.69 cents each (S$149.90 ÷ 21,600 miles) and this is pretty terrible value.
A trip to San Francisco might make more sense, if you can stomach the 15 hours per flight in Economy. The cost for such a trip is 67,200 miles and around S$100 of taxes:

I found the ticket price for Singapore Airlines flights around June to July 2025 to be anywhere between S$1,200 to S$2,000. Netting off S$100 of taxes, the 67,200 miles would have help pay for anywhere between around S$1,100 to S$1,900 which is 1.63 to 2.82 cents per mile.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay the higher end of what Singapore Airlines charges for Economy flights to US, so I will take around S$1,200 to be the ticket price. In fact, there are promotional rates for Premium Economy at around S$1,700 so you shouldn’t value an Economy flight at S$2,000.
Since there are limitless permutations of flights, travel destinations and preferences, here is my advice to see whether a redemption makes sense:
- Think about how much you would realistically pay for the flight
- Take that amount, minus off taxes you still have to pay when using miles
- Divide this amount by the number of miles required
- If the value per mile is above 1.5 cents each, I think it’s an okay redemption

“Spontaneous Escapes like never before”
Singapore Airlines is also hyping up this month’s Spontaneous Escapes, saying that “something exciting is coming” and that the Spontaneous Escapes this month “is about to get bigger and bolder”. Given that the largest ever Spontaneous Escapes discount was 51%, a discount that exceeds this would be very, very exciting.
If you’re looking to travel next month, it may be worth prepping for the promo. You can do so by pre-emptively transferring miles to your KrisFlyer account since most banks can take a few working days for that to complete. Of course, stay subscribed and leave notifications turned on so you can get timely updates.
