Easy 8% cashback in your first quarter on dining and shopping
If you’re unfamiliar with the card, HSBC Live+ is giving a high 8% cashback for new cardholders. The catch? You have to make a minimum spend of S$600 per month for 3 consecutive months. There is, however, a way to sidestep this requirement and that’s in the first calendar quarter when you apply for your HSBC Live+ card. Instead of having to meet a minimum spend each month for a quarter, you just need to make at least S$1,000 spend within the first calendar quarter your card is approved.
For instance, signing up in November would mean that you have until end of 31st December to spend at least S$1,000, and it does not matter whether your spend is in November or December. Moreover, the cashback cap is S$250, meaning to say you could spend as much as S$3,125 and get full 8% cashback on that amount. The card is hence very easy to use in its first quarter, making it suitable for your year-end shopping and dining.
That’s exactly what I did recently when Q4 of this year started – I got my “Player 2” (basically, a close friend/relative) to sign up for HSBC Live+ so I can get an easy 8% cashback on my spending. Here’s me recently treating myself to a celebratory gift with the HSBC Live+:
Great for vacation spend too
Beyond just buying a present for myself, it has also been very good for my year-end overseas trip. While not specifically an overseas card, most expenses while abroad tend to be meals and shopping anyway, and these are two categories the HSBC Live+ does well in.
Getting 8% cashback at restaurants, duty-free stores and clothing shops is incredibly easy especially since I’ve already met the minimum spend with my gift-buying. The high cashback more than makes up for the foreign currency fee that HSBC charges, and overall gives better value than many other cards, even those with no foreign currency fees.
