⚠️ Important

  1. Provide HSBC consent to receive marketing/promotional materials during application
  2. Make min. spend of S$1,000 by the end of the following month from card approval date to be eligible for rewards (i.e. cards approved in March will have until 30th April to complete spend requirement)

S$196.20 For 30,000 Miles is a Great Deal

Paying S$196.20 for 30,000 miles works out to a cost of just 0.65 cents each. This is a fantastic rate to buy miles at.

There is a little bit of opportunity cost because you have to make the S$500 minimum spend on the HSBC TravelOne card which has a low earn rate of 1.2 miles per dollar, but it’s pretty negligible.

What to spend on?

You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.

Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.
