Which promo would I choose?

If the S$3,000 spend requirement can be met, I would definitely choose StanChart Journey, picking the S$280 eCapitaVouchers and fee-paying option for 45,000 miles. At a modest 1.25 cents per mile valuation, 45,000 miles is S$562.50. After netting off the annual fee of S$196.20, your net gain is S$646.30 in value (S$280 + S$562.50 – S$196.20).

That’s a big reward for signing up a credit card, and will increase if you value miles higher. Someone who is willing to pay a premium for business class can value each mile at 1.5 cents would find the 45,000 miles worth S$675, making the net gain as much as S$758.80 (S$280 + S$675 – S$196.20).

Otherwise, the gadgets given by Simply Cash is also very attractive, especially when you consider that the spending requirement is just S$500.

What to spend on?

You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards. Do note that there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.

Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.

Do check out this article on what you can spend on to meet the minimum spend:
