American Express is back with an offer for the Amex KrisFlyer Credit Card! As a new Amex cardholder, you can enjoy the current welcome offer of up to 26,450 miles with a minimum spend of just S$500. Plus, you can get a fee waiver for the first year’s annual fee!

💳 A new American Express customer refers to cardholders who do not currently have a Basic Amex Card (i.e. not issued by a bank), and have not cancelled any in the past 12 months.

For example, if you have a UOB Amex Card or DBS Amex Card, you still count as a new customer to Amex as long as you do not have a Basic Amex Card.

Amex KrisFlyer earns 1.1 KrisFlyer miles per S$1 spent, and it’s credited directly to your KrisFlyer Account.

You will also receive the normal earn rate of 1.1 miles per dollar on the eligible spend which works out to 550 miles based on the S$500 above. This means you can get up to 27,000 miles from this welcome offer.

To get more miles, you can use the card for Singapore Airlines and Grab transactions (and in case you are wondering – Grab top-ups are excluded). If you use it on Singapore Airlines and KrisShop, it is 2 miles per dollar earn rate instead. Charging your Grab rides to this card is also a good idea to clock the minimum spend since it earns bonus 2 miles per dollar on the first S$200 of Grab rides and deliveries in a calendar month, making a decent 3.1 miles per dollar rate.

Miles earned on this card go directly to your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account with no conversion fees required.

Get lots of miles easily

Getting 27,000 miles is definitely a terrific welcome offer and the KrisFlyer miles are enough for a return trip to nearby places like Bali (Indonesia), Phuket (Thailand), or Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) in Singapore Airlines’ Economy Class. (Redemption based on Singapore Airlines Economy Saver Awards. This information is correct as of March 2024. Terms and conditions apply.)

The miles will take up to 10 weeks to be credited after meeting minimum spend, and like your miles earned from the usual earn rate, they go directly to your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account with no fees payable.

S$500 is a relatively low spending requirement and it is even easier to achieve considering CardUp transactions count towards it. You can therefore make bill payments via CardUp to clock the spend requirement and the rewards you receive offset CardUp’s service fee. I’ve written a guide on CardUp which you can find here.

Offer ends 29th May 2024

To qualify, sign up by latest 29th May 2024 and your application needs to be approved by 29th May 2024. My experience with American Express is that they have approved my past card applications quite quickly, but apply earlier in the event more requirements are needed to process your application.
