RIP: Amex Pay Discontinued From 31st July 2025
In an email sent out to its customers earlier in the month, American Express has informed its users that Amex Pay would be discontinued from 31st July 2025.
The final day to use Amex Pay would hence be 30th July 2025. With XNAP presumably dead, this is pretty sad news. Read on for details as well as some alternatives to look at.
Existing users can continue using Amex Pay until 30th July 2025
For those of us who have already added their cards to Amex Pay, we can continue using Amex Pay until its very last day on 30th July 2025.
If you have yet to add your American Express card to Amex Pay, you are still able to do so if you are using iOS. Android users, however, will not be able to add new cards to Amex Pay. They will only be able to use previously added cards for Amex Pay.
Regardless, everyone will not be able to use Amex Pay from 31st July 2025 when they pull the plug.
Participating locations may vary
In its FAQ document, American Express cautions that participating locations may vary as the company progressively removes payment signages. I think this means they are removing their logo from SGQR codes, though I’m guessing that Amex Pay payments would still work as a payment method until its final day.
