Buffed: Bonus$aver Increases Rates, 3.05% + 2.5% p.a. Possible

With effect from 1st June 2025, Bonus$aver has increased its rates. The last revision to the account’s interest rates took effect 1st January 2025 where rates were arguably reduced too drastically.

Bonus$aver has also boosted the interest given for buying investment and insurance products from Standard Chartered:

Invest2.00%2.50%
Insure2.00%2.50%

While I tend to avoid buying insurance and investment products from the bank, the Invest category actually looks quite attractive (more on this later).

Salary Credit and Card Spend requirements

Salary Credit requirement remains at S$3,000 per month by means of GIRO, FAST or PayNow. There is no publicly known workaround for this requirement.

Card Spend requirement is also unchanged at S$1,000 of eligible transactions per month on a Bonus$aver credit or debit card. A reminder that Bonus$aver cards earn no rewards at all, so there is some opportunity cost when you put spend here for higher interest.

Insure and Invest requirements

With a high annualised premium amount of S$12,000 required, we can quite safely ignore the Insure category. Insurance policies bought through a bank tend to be very awful products in my experience, and the commitment can be for years or even decades. Moreover, the bonus interest is only for a period of 6 months.

Invest category, however, deserves a second look. The usual requirement has been a minimum of S$20,000 of unit trust bought in a single subscription. Newly added is also the option to trade at least S$20,000 in cumulative buy trades of equities through SC Online Trading within a month. That’s not too difficult or costly actually, and given that equities and unit trusts have no lock-in period, it may be an easy way to get 2.50% p.a. for 6 months.
